ROCK 'N ROLL+SURREALISM +TRADITIONS. Vishal Kothari, founder and DA of VAK, creates fine handcrafted jewelry. His work has been noticed by collectors and reputable institutions around the world for Vishal's singular vision, - The Museum of Fine Arts Houston calls him a Master Jewelry Artist. Craftsmanship is in his veins: born into the third generation of a family of jewelers in Mumbai, Vishal sharpened his eye and craft from an early age in the family workshop. Today, he perpetuates the traditions and craftsmanship using his own design language. Vishal masters an alliance of traditional references with innovative techniques and a very modern style. He telentedly reinterprets motifs from nature and architecture: you can see dance of flowers, leaves and trees, or motifs of fabulous bulbous domes, vaulted gateways and delicate ornamentation from Mughal design. He adds to this a pinch ( or shall I say "punch"?) of rock'n roll and surrealism and here is a result: visually striking and unexpected compositions with strong sculptural aesthetics and singular identity. Vishal creates only one of a kind or limited editions. “I use minimal metal to highlight the boldness of the gemstones - they almost float. A lot of R&D goes into my work ”, he says. All the pieces are handcrafted in his workshop in Mumbai. I am delighted to show VAK's creation here in my gallery and on PAD ONLINE EDITION. We have selected a few signature models. I am moved by the beauty and simply fabulous emerald beads work and the way they interlace with the branches. The design of the turquoise ring with the interpretation of the diamond baguettes has never been seen before. And the earrings with Fire Opals are a poem to femininity! I wish you experience the same emotions as me when I see Vishal's creations. Enjoy! All images: courtesy of the designer
